PAKISTAN. FIVE PEOPLE HANGED FOR GANG RAPE
July 12, 2006: five people convicted of gang- raping a woman were hanged in the early morning at the district jail in Sialkot, about 125 km north of Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, Pakistan, jail Superintendent Abdul Razaq Niazi said.
The men, Mushtaq Papu, Shehzad Maseeh, Muhammad Yousaf, Abdul Jabbar and Iftikhar Ahmed had been convicted of raping Surreya Bibi in September 1999. The convicts were all between 23 and 35 years of age. (Sources: Xinhua News Agency, 12/07/2006)
