IRAN. SUPREME COURT CONFIRMS WOMAN'S DEATH SENTENCE
February 16, 2007: Iran's Supreme Court has confirmed the death sentence of a 20 year old woman identified as Darabi, according to her lawyer. At 17 she was convicted of murdering her father's 65 year old cousin during a burglary she committed with 19 year old Amir Hossein.
Darabi initially confessed to the murder, but subsequently claimed she was drugged by Hossein and was only a witness. "I am a minor and I thought I would not be sentenced to death, so I took the responsibility because I loved him."
Amir Hossein was sentenced to a 10 year jail term that was later increased to 13 years. (Sources: AFP, 16/02/2007)
