IRAQ. FORMER SADDAM AIDE EXECUTED IN BAGHDAD
March 20, 2007: Iraq executed Saddam Hussein's former vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan before dawn as the nation marked the fourth anniversary of the US led war.
"Ramadan was hanged at 3.05am today," an official from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's office told reporters. Ramadan is the fourth ex-regime figure, including Saddam himself, to be hanged for crimes against humanity over the killing of 148 Shi'as from the town of Dujail.
Lawyer Badie Aref said that the US military allowed Ramadan to call his family before his execution. (Sources: Independent Online, 20/03/2007)
