UTAH (USA). GOVERNOR EXPANDS DEATH PENALTY IN CHILD SLAYING CASES
March 19, 2007: Utah’s Governor Jon Huntsman signed laws that expand the death penalty in cases involving children. House Bill 228 adds the intentional murder of a child under the age of 14 to the list of offenses that can bring a death sentence. Under House Bill 93, prosecutors won't have to prove that a killing was intentional to seek the death penalty if a child died during an act of abuse, sexual assault or kidnapping. The bills were among 27 signed into law by Huntsman. (Sources: Associated Press, 19/03/2007)
