SOUTH KOREA. FISHERMAN SENTENCED TO DEATH
February 20, 2008: a 71 year old fisherman, identified only by the surname Oh, charged with murdering three young women and a man in 2007 was sentenced to death by a South Korean district court.
"The suspect mercilessly killed the young victims to satisfy his sexual desires and denied the charges when he was arrested," read the ruling of the Suncheon branch of Gwangju District Court. "As there is a possibility he will commit a crime again, it is necessary to isolate him from society forever."
The fisherman killed the four, a teenage couple and two female friends in their 20s, by pushing them into the sea on two different occasions, on August 31 and September 25, 2007. The victims visited Yulpo Beach in Boseong, South Jeolla, on vacation and were found dead in the vicinity of the beach. (Sources: Joongan Daily, 21/02/2008)
