IRAN. TWO MINORS SENTENCED TO DEATH
September 23, 2008: two young men were sentenced to death in Iran for crimes they allegedly committed as minors.
In the first case, Nemat Safavi, arrested almost three years ago at the age of 16, was condemned to death by a court in Ardebil, in the northwest Iranian Azerbaijan region.
Nemat was accused of having homosexual relations. While that was not stated during the court case, he was accused of "sexual relations that were not admitted".
A young man identified as Mahyear was sentenced to death for a crime he allegedly committed when 17, the state-run daily Kargozaran reported. (Sources: Aki, NCR-Iran.org, 23/09/2003)
