NIGERIA: FG COMMUTED 45 DEATH SENTENCES IN 2008
March 31, 2009: the Nigerian Minister of the Interior, Godwin Abbe, said the Federal Government commuted forty-five death sentences to life imprisonment in 2008.
He also stated that 240 convicted people were granted amnesty.
Abbe said this in Abuja during the 1st Regional workshop on Prisons and Corrections, saying the move by the government is in line with its determination to ensure reforms in the prison system. (Sources: All Africa, 01/04/2009)
