MALAYSIA: TWO THAIS TO BE HUNG FOR TRAFFICKING CANNABIS
April 22, 2009: two Thai nationals were sentenced to death by the High Court in Temerloh, central Pahang state in Malaysia, for trafficking in 18.754 kg of cannabis.
Justice Abdul Halim Aman convicted Sureeya Wuttisat, 45, and Asan Tong, 47, both of Narathiwat province.
They were found guilty of committing the offense at a petrol station in Bentong, Pahang on April 24, 2004.
The offense under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries the mandatory death sentence. (Sources: Xinhua News Agency, 22/04/2009)
