SOMALIA: BOSASO COURT SENTENCES DEFENDANT TO DEATH
September 28, 2009: The district court of Bosaso, in Puntland State of Somalia, sentenced one of five young defendants to execution.
Five young men accused of committing various crimes of extortion and murder were brought to the Bosaso court by a heavily armed police officers.
Witnesses and relatives of the victims listened to theĀ hearing, as the prosecutor explained how these five men, terrorized people living in the outskirts of Bosaso, extorting them from money.
One of the defendants was accused of killing an armed man near Bosaso, for not giving extortion money for using a public water well.
Judge Mohamed Aware, of Bosaso district court, sentenced the man to death, saying there was no doubt that he committed the murder.
āā¦..according to the sharia law, he must be sentenced to deathā¦.ā Judge Mohamed Ware said.
