TEXAS (USA): SAMUEL BUSTAMANTE EXECUTED
April 27, 2010: Samuel Bustamante was executed in Texas. Bustamante, 40, hispanic, was convicted in 2001 of the January 18, 1998 robbing and slaying of Rafael Alvarado, 27, an illegal immigranta from Mexico.
He had confessed.
The punishment came about 90 minutes after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a last-ditch appeal from Bustamante's attorneys.
He becomes the 7th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Texas and the 454th overall since the state resumed capital punishment on December 7, 1982.
Bustamante becomes the 15th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1203rd overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977. (Sources: Associated Press & Rick Halperin, 27/04/2010)
