IRAN: MAN EXECUTED IN PUBLIC FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING
May 20, 2010: Iran publicly hanged a man convicted of drug trafficking in the western city of Ahvaz, Fars news agency reported. The man was identified by his initials as A.A., he was arrested with 1.375 kilos of heroin.
Another person identified as "S. R." who is also convicted of drug trafficking, is scheduled to be hanged in Ahwaz next week.
According to the reports published on Iran Human Rightsâ website, Ahwaz (capital of the Khuzestan province) has been the city with the highest number of public hangings in 2010. (Sources: Agence France Presse, 20/05/2010)
