IRAN: FOUR SENTENCED TO DEATH IN NORTHWEST FOR DRUG SMUGGLING
September 5, 2010: four unidentified major importers of precursors of opiates were sentenced to death in Iran's West Azarbayjan Province, Fars news agency quoted the commander of the West Azarbayjan Anti-Drug Police Department, Karim Akbari, as saying.
"Four major importers of precursors of opiates were sentenced to death in West Azarbayjan after the implementation of legal procedures carried out by judicial officials," Akbari, said in an interview with the correspondent of Fars in Orumiyeh.
"After a careful study of the heavy file of these people, the judicial body chose execution as the most appropriate punishment for these criminals," he concluded. (Sources: BBC, 06/09/2010)
