N KOREA PURGES DEPUTY SPY CHIEF
May 20, 2011: Ryu Kyong, a deputy director of North Korea's State Security Department was allegedly executed in early January 2011 in a power struggle, according to a source. Kyong was summoned by Kim Jong-il and was arrested by members of the General Guard Bureau. According to the source he was interrogated and secretly executed. Officials are trying to confirm the execution.
