IRAN: TEN PEOPLE EXECUTED
September 13, 2011: ten people have been executed in Iran in the last two days.
On September 13 Iran publicly hanged a man convicted of murdering a female fellow student in Tehran, the state television website reported.
The 25-year-old, identified only by his first name Kousha, had confessed to stabbing the woman to death in broad daylight after she spurned him in early July, the report said.
Kousha was sent to the gallows near the scene of the crime, a bridge in northwest Tehran, it added.
Another man convicted of murdering four members of a family a year ago was hanged on 13 September in public in the town of Dashtestan, the FARS news agency reported.
Iran hanged three people on 13 September or drug trafficking in the central city of Qom, the FARS news agency reported. FARS identified the three convicted drug smugglers by the initials of M. M., A. B. and M. D., but it did not specify whether the execution was carried out in public or in prison.
Five prisoners were hanged on September 12 in the prison of Shahroud in Semnan province (north of Iran) early in the morning. According to the official site of the judiciary in Semnan they were all convicted of drug trafficking. None of those executed today were identified by name or age.
