PAKISTAN: DEATH SENTENCE AWARDED IN RAPE AND MURDER CASE
January 10, 2012: A man, Gohar Ahmed alias Chaman, was sentenced to death in Pakistan for kidnapping, raping and then killing an eleven-year-old girl in the year 2005.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs50,000. The convict was also required to pay Rs500,000 compensation to the heirs of the victim. The judgment was announced in the Judicial Complex of the Central Prison Karachi by the additional district and sessions judge IV.
Chaman had kidnapped the victim on December 28, 2005. Two of the area people had witnessed the kidnapping who told the police about the incident. On their identification, the police raided the house of Chaman and arrested him the very next day.
During investigations he confessed to the murder. The case was first tried in an anti-terrorist court and later shifted to the sessions court. The case was transferred to the judicial complex in 2011. (Sources: thenews.com.pk, 11/01/2012)
