IRAN: SEVEN PRISONERS HANGED
May 23, 2012: Seven prisoners have been hanged in Iran recently.
The first two prisoners identified as S. R. and V. A. were hanged on 20 May in Sanandaj prison, the state run news agency FARS reported. Both the prisoners were convicted of rape and robbery.
On 20 May 2012, according to the official web site of the Iranian judiciary in Mazandaran, one prisoner was hanged in Sari prison. The prisoner, who was not identified by name, was convicted of trafficking 50 kilograms of opium, said the report.
According to the Kurdish news agency Kurdpa, a Kurdish prisoner, identified by the name of Hiva Havas, was hanged on 20 May in Dizelabad prison in Kermanshah. The report did not mention the prisonerâs charges, but did state that Havas had previously been arrested in connection with the 2009 Iranian post-election protests.
On 22 May 2012, three prisoners were executed in Shiraz. According to the official site of the Iranian judiciary in Fars Province (where Shiraz is the capital), three prisoners identified as Z. R., A. A. and H. A. were hanged in the Adelabad prison of Shiraz. The prisoners were convicted of keeping and carrying 2 kilograms of heroin, carrying 32 kilograms and 309 grams of heroin and keeping and carrying 4 kilograms and 900 grams of crack, respectively, said the report.
