BELARUS: PARLIAMENT WORKING GROUP ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT STILL ACTIVE
October 18, 2012: The working group set up by the National Assembly of Belarus to look into the capital punishment issue has not been disbanded, Mr Vladimir Andreichenko, newly elected Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, told media.
Asked about the operation of the working group and the possible restoration of Belarusâ invitee status in PACE, Vladimir Andreichenko said: âWe were close to resolving these issues. The terrorist attacks that have happened have interfered with it a lot. We have not disbanded the group, it is still working. Certainly, the key goal is to take into account the opinion of all the population strata, to hear the voice of the Belarusian nation. I think we will return to this matter laterâ.
