BANGLADESH: DEATH FOR 10 JMB ACTIVISTS
June 20, 2013: Ten Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) men were sentenced to death for involvement in the 2005 suicide bombing at Gazipur Bar association that killed eight people.
Dhaka Speedy Trials Tribunal-4 Judge Mohammad Motahar Hossain announced the verdict.
The ten convicted on the death row are Enayetullah aka Jewel, Arifur Rahman, Masidul Islam Masud, Saidur Rahman Munsi, Abdullah Al Sohayel, Nizamuddin Reza, Taibur Rahman Hassan, Arshadul Islam, Shafiullah Tarek and Adnan Sami Jahangir.
Another case related to this suicide bombing, filed under the Explosives Act, is pending in the same court.
JMB activist Asad (known by his many aliases like Zia, Nazir, Nahid) had blown himself up at hall-2 of Gazipur district Bar association office on Nov 29, 2005, after he entered the building dressed in a lawyer's gown.
The bombing killed Asad and lawyers Amzad Hossain, Golam Faruque, Nurul Huda and Anwarul Azim and their clients Abdur Raub, Basir Uddin, Marzina Akhter and Shamsul Haque. (Sources: bdnews24.com, 20/06/2013)
