OKLAHOMA (USA): BRIAN DARRELL DAVIS EXECUTED DESPITE PAROLE BOARD'S RECOMMENDATION FOR CLEMENCY
June 25, 2013: Brian Darrell Davis, 38, Black, was executed in Oklahoma. Davis was convicted of raping and stabbing to death his girlfriend's mother, 52-year-old Josephine Sanford, in November 2001.
Davis said he returned home early that morning and discovered his live-in girlfriend Stacey and their 3-year-old daughter were gone. Davis said he and Jody Sanford then had consensual sex, argued and fought, and he admitted to stabbing her.
On June 13 Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin denied Davis' request for clemency, rejecting a June 6 parole board recommendation that his sentence be commuted to life without parole.
Davis becomes the 3rd inmate executed this year in Oklahoma, the 105rd overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1990, the 17th to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1337th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977. (Sources: Reuters, 25/06/2013)
