The 7 people, according to recent reports, are in prison al-Huot in the airport area of Baghdad and seriously threatened with extradition to Iran where he would suffer the most atrocious torture and death.
An appeal for their release has been signed, among others, by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Navi Pillay, by Bernard Kouchner, AndrĂ© Glucksmann, Robert Badinter, JosĂ© Luis RodrĂguez Zapatero, Ingrid Betancourt, Robert Torricelli (former U.S. Senator) and Bill Richardson, former Governor of New Mexico. During the press conference, Faride Karimi, Head of Human Rights for the Council of Resistance of Iran, has addressed the Minister of Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino, to turn on for the release of seven hostages.
The exponents of Radical associations, Elisabetta Zamparutti, Marco Perduca and Antonella Casu have said: "The battle that we lead for years for the affirmation of the right to the truth about the war in Iraq, which could have been avoided with the exile of Saddam Hussein, is today another form of manifestation in the commitment to the knowledge of what is undergoing the Iranian resistance movement by an Iraq still far from liberation from terror, a terror that has now taken on the face of the Iranian regime."
The Radical leaders have concluded: "We support the request to the Italian government to take action for the immediate release of the 7 hostages and for the acceleration of procedures for reception in our country of those who have health problems or have the conditions for granting refugee status political refugee
The opponents of the Iranian regime who reside at Camp Liberty (about 3,000 people), as those who were massacred at Camp Asharf on September 1 as well as the 7 seized, all enjoy the status of 'protected persons' in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.
We ask our government to make effective this condition recognized by international law, and intervene at the United Nations in order to establish a force for the protection of the residents at Camp Liberty in Iraq."
