BANGLADESH: ONE SENTENCED TO DEATH IN NTV EMPLOYEE MURDER CASE
June 24, 2014: The Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 2 sentenced to death one Shakil Shikder for killing ntv video editor Atiqul Islam Atiq in 2009.
It also fined him Tk 50,000 in addition.
The court also sentenced Ibn Ali Nahid, 36, and Forkan, 36, to life imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000 each.
Their jail term will be extended by one more month if they fail to pay the fine.
The court also sentenced fugitive Md Khokan, 40, to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Tk 5,000, failing to pay which his jail term will be extended by one more month.
NTV video editor Atik was returning to his Moghbazaar home on Feb 13, 2009 from work. Muggers had shot him at Taltala alley in Moghbazaar and fled with his motorbike.
He was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died around 10: 30 pm.
His father, a former Rupali Bank Officer, Abdur Rashid welcomed the verdict and hoped that it would be implemented soon. (Sources: bdnews24.com, 24/06/2014)
