EU URGES SINGAPORE TO STOP EXECUTIONS
April 24, 2015: The EU called on the Singaporean authorities to stop all pending executions and to reinstate its earlier moratorium on capital punishment. Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, issued the statement following the recent execution of a convict in Singapore.
âFollowing the recent execution of a convict in Singapore, the European Union recalls its opposition to the use of capital punishment. The European Union believes that the death penalty is a cruel and inhumane punishment and has consistently called for its universal abolition.
