EGYPT: DEATH PENALTY, LIFE IN PRISON FOR 4 OVER ARSON
October 3, 2015: Two were sentenced to death, two others to life in prison and a minor to a 10-year jail term for sabotage.
The Giza Criminal Court, headed by controversial judge Mohamed Nagi Shehata, convicted the five defendants of Administrative Prosecution Authority and a cell site of a private telecommunications company in 6 October city on the outskirts of Cairo.
One of the two sentenced to death was convicted in absentia; the rest are in custody.
The court issued the sentence after consulting Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam on the death sentences for an unbinding religious opinion. (Sources: thecairopost.com, 04/10/2015)
