MALAYSIA: SULTAN IBRAHIM GRANTS CLEMENCY TO FOUR ON DEATH ROW
November 22, 2015: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has granted clemency to four prisoners on death row by reducing their sentence to life imprisonment in conjunction with his birthday celebration.
State Secretary Datuk Ismail Karim said two of the prisoners were convicted of murder, while the other two for drug trafficking.
The two prisoners on death row for murder are at the Pokok Sena Prison in Kedah and in Kluang, while the other two prisoners are at the Simpang Renggam Prison, he told reporters.
He said the cases involving the prisoners were among 30 appeal cases referred to the Stateās Pardons Board which was chaired by Sultan Ibrahim last November 16.
The meeting was also attended by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali. (Sources: Malay Mail Online, 22/11/2015)
