IRAN: HANDS OFF CAIN ASKS THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT TO INTERVENE ON AN ANTI-SEMITIC CARTOON CONTEST
May 31, 2016: Hands Off Cain asks the Italian Government to take a stand on yet another anti-Semitic event staged by the iranian regime, though camouflaged as a so-called cartoon contest.
Also in 2016, for the third year in a row, it was held in Iran the Holocaust Cartoon Contest.
Event organizer Massoud Shojaei Tabatabaei contradicted the iranian foreign minister Zarif, who told the american magazine The New Yorker that the regime was not involved. According to Tabatabaei instead, the event was staged in accordance with both the Ministry of Culture and the Supreme Leader.
âThe Italian Government has a privileged relation with the Iranian regime, having been Italy the first country visited by President Rouhani and having been Prime Minister Renzi the first European Head of Government to visit Iran. So it has a duty to seek explanation to the Iranian government about the "satirical" event - said Sergio D'Elia, Secretary of Hands Off Cain. âIt is clear, watching the cartoons, that it is an outrage to the memory of the Shoah, in line with the political actuality of the Iranian regime that continues to propagate and pursue the goal of wiping Israel off the map, and the violation of human rights as enshrined in international lawâ.
