BANGLADESH: TWO SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING JESSORE PHYSICIAN
July 19, 2016: A court in Jessore sentenced two persons to death in the sensational Dr Shafiqul Islam murder case.
Special Tribunal Judge Nitai Chandra Saha pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are Asikur Rahman Bablu, 40, and Saiful Islam Jakir, 36, residents of Ghope Nawapara area in the district town.
According to the prosecution, the convicts hacked indiscriminately doctor Shafiqul Islam, Jessore unit treasurer of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and owner of Jess Clinic in the district town, at his chamber at about 10 pm on July 29 in 2009 following a dispute over the ownership of the clinic.
Critically injured Safiqul died at Bangabandhu Medical College Hospital during the treatment. (Sources: theindependentbd.com, 19/07/2016)
