BANGLADESH: FIVE GET DEATH SENTENCE OVER HABIGANJ FARMER MURDER
October 25, 2016: A court in Habiganj sentenced five people to death and 27 others to different terms of imprisonment for killing a farmer in Nabiganj upazila in 2002.
The condemned convicted are: Anis, Foras, Jamsed, Bazlu and Nur Islam, all resident of Boaljur village in Dighalbagh upazila. Jamsed, Bazlu and Nur remain absconding, reports UNB.
According to prosecution, Nur along with his men attacked Moktadir Ali, a farmer of the village, as he protested when one of Nurâs cattle foraged his ripe paddy field, leaving him dead on the spot on February 20 in 2002.
Later the victimâs brother Mosahid Ali filed the case against 40 people in this connection with Nabiganj Police Station.
Police submitted charge sheet against 35 people. Among the 35 people, three people died in different times.
After examining all the records and 16 witnesses among 19, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafroza Parvin handed down the verdict. (Sources: thefinancialexpress-bd.com, 25/10/2016)
