BANGLADESH: MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING TWO IN CHUADANGA
January 24, 2017: A court in Chuadanga sentenced a man to death for killing a woman and her daughter in Railpara area of the district town in 2009.
The order was passed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rokonuzzaman convicting Manjurul Islam Malik Lipu for the killings and sentenced him to death.
He was also fined Tk 50,000 by the court.
According to the prosecution, the condemned convict strangulated Rina Akter, wife of Habibur Rahman, a resident of Railpara area of the district town, and her 12-year-old daughter Ayesha Khatun to death on November 16, 2009.
Later, a case was filed against Lipu with Sadar Police Station by Habibur Rahman, husband of deceased Rina.
Charge sheet against Lipu before the court was submitted by Amir Abbas, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, on January 16, 2010.
