NEBRASKA (USA): NIKKO JENKINS SENTENCED TO DEATH
May 30, 2017: A Nebraska three-judge panel has voted to sentence Nikko Jenkins, 30, Black, to death. The death sentence was the first imposed in Nebraska since voters restored the death penalty in the state last November. Jenkins, whose trial was delayed by repeated acts of self-mutilation, represented himself in the penalty hearing. Jenkins pleaded no contest to 4 murder counts. A no-contest plea acknowledges there is sufficient evidence to convict but is not an admittance of guilt. The murders occurred within a month after he had been released from prison after serving â10 1⁄2 years of the 21 years to which he had been sentenced for a carjacking committed at age 15 and for assaults committed in prison. Jenkins stated that he had committed the killings at the command of the ancient serpent god Apophis. He was sentenced for the Aug. 11, 2013, execution-style shooting of Juan Uribe-Pena (26), for the Aug. 11, 2013, execution-style shooting of Jorge Cajiga-Ruiz (29), for the Aug. 19, 2013, execution-style shooting of Curtis Bradford (22), and for the Aug. 21, 2013, execution-style shooting of Andrea Kruger (33).
