EGYPT COURT SENTENCES 9 TO DEATH FOR KILLING BODYGUARD OF FORMER CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR
September 17, 2017: A Giza criminal court sentenced nine people to death for killing the bodyguard of then-governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Hesham Ramez in February 2013. The court found the defendants guilty of premeditated murder as well as stealing the victim’s car and possessing weapons without a license. According to investigators, the defendants shot the victim dead when he resisted their attempt to steal his car. The court sentenced two others in the case to two years in prison and acquitted two other defendants. The verdict can still be appealed. (Sources: english.ahram.org.eg, 17/09/2017)
