BANGLADESH: GAZIPUR COURT SENTENCES FOUR TO DEATH OVER MURDER OF AUTORICKSHAW OWNER
February 6, 2018: A Gazipur court has sentenced four people to death in a 2012 case over the murder of an autorickshaw owner in the district. District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Hoque announced the verdict on February 6. The convicts are Kamrul Islam, Shoukat, Mizan and Shahin Mia. They have been fined Tk 10,000 each, said Md Rabiul Islam, a court police inspector. Two other suspects, Shishir Shangma and Khorshed Alam, have been acquitted. The convicts hacked to death Khoka Mia in January 2012 in Khashpara neighbourhood in Sreepur Upazila, Inspector Islam said citing the case dossier. “Kamrul reached Khashpara by Khoka’s autorickshaw where his accomplices joined him. They slashed Khoka’s throat and fled with the vehicle.” Sreepur police’s Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam started the case accusing Kamrul Islam and two other unidentified men.
