INDIA: 7-YEAR-OLD HASINI'S RAPIST AND KILLER SENTENCED TO DEATH
February 19, 2018: The young engineer accused of raping and murdering 7-year-old Hasini in Chennai last February was sentenced to death by a Chengalpet Court, Tamil Nadu. Dhasvanth, who was found guilty of raping and murdering a minor, asked the judge to give him the minimum punishment. But public prosecutors had clearly proved his crimes in their arguments. He was found guilty of six charges under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Dhasvanth was first arrested after he raped Hasini in February, but was then released on bail. In December, he allegedly killed his own mother and escaped with her jewellery. He was then arrested in Mumbai by a special team of the Chennai Police. He was nabbed again the "very next day," according to a report by The News Minute. (Sources: indiatoday.in, 19/02/2018)
