BANGLADESH: 7 SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER IN FARIDPUR
October 14, 2019: A Faridpur court on 10 October 2019 sentenced seven people to death for killing a truck driver in 2014. The convicts are Tofa Molla, 26, Palash Fakir, 32, Siddique Khalashi, 36, Ershad Matubbar, 32, Sirajul Kha, 27, Naim Matubbar, 35, and Anu Molla, 28, of Chanda village in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district, reports UNB. Naim and Sirajul were trialled in absentia. The court also fined them Tk10,000 each. According to prosecution, Keramat Hawladar, a truck driver of Uttar Lohardia village in Bhanga upazila went missing on 14 December 2014. Police recovered his body from a water body in Dighalkanda the following day. The next day, Keramat’s brother Ikram Hawladar filed a murder case with Bhanga police station. Police arrested five accused and submitted chargesheet against seven people on 7 December 2015.
