SOMALIA: TWO SHABAAB MEMBERS SENTENCED TO DEATH, DISTRICT COMMISSIONER TO LIFE FOR MURDER OF DEPUTY COMMISSIONER
November 5, 2019: A military court in Mogadishu on 28 October 2019 sentenced two Al-Shabaab members to death in connection with a bomb attack on the late Mahas deputy district commissioner, Rashid Osman Abdi. Former Mahas District Commissioner Abdirahman Sheikh Elmi Awale was sentenced to life in prison for the killing of his deputy on April 2019. The court also sentenced Noor Ibrahim Mahad Alle to death after he was found guilty of bringing the vehicle that was carrying the explosives used in the attack. The court sentenced Ali Ahmed Gure (Qoyane) who was not present at the court to death in absentia for being a member of Al-Shabaab. All of the convicts can appeal the ruling, according to the judge.
