CHINA: ARSONIST EXECUTED OVER FATAL FIRE IN GUANGDONG
December 27, 2019: An arsonist who set a fire in a KTV bar in south China's Guangdong Province that killed 18 people was executed on 24 December 2019, according to a local court. The death sentence of Liu Chunlu has been reviewed and approved by the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the country's top court. Liu was executed in the morning, the Guangdong High People's Court said. At around 00:30 a.m. on April 24, 2018, due to personal dissatisfaction, Liu removed the oil pipe of his motorcycle parked on the first floor of a KTV bar in the city of Yingde, allowing oil to flow onto the ground, and ignited the oil with a lighter. The fire engulfed the lounge, leaving 18 people inside dead, one seriously wounded and two others slightly injured. Liu's close relatives met him before the execution. (Sources: Xinhua, 24/12/2019)
