IRAN: MAN HANGED IN GOLESTAN PROVINCE
May 7, 2020: According to Iranian semi-official Fars News Agency, a man, whose name was not mentioned, was hanged at a prison in Gonbad Kavus city, Golestan province, on 5 May 2020. He was sentenced to death for “rape and murder of a four-year-old child” five years ago. The executions are carried out while the Islamic Republic’s authorities had usually been reluctant to execute people in the Muslims’ fasting month, Ramadan, during the past years. However, several people have been executed in the first days of Ramadan 2020. (Sources: IHR, 07/05/2020)
