BANGLADESH: 4 SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING KHULNA MADRASA STUDENT
September 16, 2020: A Khulna court on 2 September 2020 sentenced four persons to death for killing a Madrasa student -- Musa Sikder. Judge Md Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury of Khulna District and Sessions Judge's Court pronounced the verdict in the presence of all the convicts at the courtroom. The convicts -- Amin Sikder, Raheen Sheikh, Raju Sheikh and Nuhu Sheikh – were also fined Tk 25,000 each. They were sentenced to another 10 years' imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000 under another section. Later, the convicts were sent to jail. The court also acquitted two other accused -- Siraj Sikder and Jasim Sikder-- as allegations brought against them were not proven. On 20 September 2018, police recovered the body of Musa Sikder from Atharobeki River in Rupsha upazila of Khulna. Convicts strangled Musa, son of Mustakim Sikder of Ilaipur village in Rupsha upazila, and dumped his body in the river following a dispute over a trivial issue. Mukta Roy Chowdhury, a sub inspector of Detective Branch of police and the investigating officer of the case, submitted a chargesheet in the court on 30 May 2019, accusing six people.
