BANGLADESH: 2 SENTENCED TO DEATH 18 YEARS AFTER THE MURDER OF NATORE FREEDOM FIGHTER
September 22, 2020: Two people were sentenced to death by a Natore court on 21 September 2020 for killing freedom fighter Dr Aynal Haque, also a former president of the Baraigram upazila unit Awami League in Natore. Torab Ali and Shamim were convicted for the murder which happened in 2002, confirmed Public Prosecutor Advocate Sirajul Islam. After examining all records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Saifur Rahman Siddiqi handed down the verdict acquitting 11 accused. According to the case filed in connection with the murder, Aynal was on his way home from Bonpara Bazar when miscreants stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. On 29 March, he succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. His daughter-in-law Nazma Begum filed the murder case against 17 people including the then upazila unit BNP president.
