SOMALIA: AL-SHABAAB EXECUTES SIX ALLEGED SPIES
July 5, 2021: Al-Shabaab terrorist group on 27 June 2021 publicly executed six people accused of spying for the American intelligence agency, the CIA, in southern Somalia. The Al-Qaeda ally confirmed the killings on its Andalus radio station, saying they were carried out by a firing squad in a public square in Sakow town, a town in the Middle Jubba region. A woman identified as Fartun Omar Abkow, 36, was among the alleged spies executed by Al-Shabaab, according to Al-Shabaab's statement. "We have publicly executed six people, including a woman on 27 June afternoon in Sakow town after they admitted the espionage charges before the court," said an unnamed Al-Shabaab judge. He said the killing was carried out in revenge for mass execution of 21 Al-Shabaab militants in Puntland on 27 June after a local military court sentenced them to death for role in series of assassinations and blast in Galkayo for the past 13 years.
