BANGLADESH: 6 SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY IN MYMENSINGH
January 23, 2023: The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced six people to death in Mymensingh's Trishal upazila for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. They are - Md Mokhlesur Rahman Mukul, Md Saidul Rahman Ratan, Shamsul Haque Fakir, Nurul Haque Fakir, Md Sultan Mahmud Fakir and Naqib Hussain Adil Sarkar. All of them are absconding. The three-member International Crimes Tribunal headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam announced the verdict on January 23, 2023. An investigation against the death row convicts started on January 26, 2017. The probe report was submitted on December 31, 2017. A charge sheet was filed on July 12, 2018, and the trial started on December 2 of the same year. A total of six charges were framed against the six people, including murder, abduction and rape.
