BANGLADESH: TWO SENTENCED TO DEATH IN LALMONIRHAT MURDER CASE
October 28, 2024: A court in Lalmonirhat on October 28, 2024 sentenced two persons to death in the much-discussed murder case filed in 2020 at Hatibandha Upazila in the district. The condemned convicts were Osman Ali, 53, a resident of Dakshin Haldibarichar village under Hatibandha Upazila, and Rabiul Islam, 41, of Dakshin Parulia village.Lalmonirhat District and Sessions Court Judge Judge Adib Ali gave the verdict in the afternoon. Meanwhile, four other accused in the case were acquitted. According to the court and case statement, a housewife Dipali Dev Singh of that area disappeared from her house on July 14, 2020. On 17 July 2020, three days after the disappearance, police recovered Dipali's body from the banks of the Teesta river in southern Haldibari area of the upazila. Nirmal Dev Singh, brother-in-law of the woman, filed a murder case with Hatibandha Police Station on July 22 mentioning the names of six people in the incident. (Source: Daily Observer, 28/10/2024)
