An informed source told IranWire on Sunday that following extensive domestic and international protests, the executions were halted, and the prisoners were moved from the secure ward to the political prisoners’ ward. The 2 had previously been transferred from Evin Prison to Ghezel-Hesar’s secure ward on January 27 in preparation for execution. Ehsani and Hasani are members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. Reports of their imminent executions last week sparked widespread domestic and international outcry. The Supreme Court upheld their death sentences on January 8 without following the standard appeals process. Ehsani, 70, was arrested at his home during the nationwide protests in November 2022 and taken to Evin Prison’s Ward 209, controlled by the Ministry of Intelligence. After 3 1/2 months, he was moved to Ward 4. Following 22 months in detention without formal charges, he was sentenced to death in September 2024 for “rebellion, waging war against God, corruption on Earth, membership in the MEK organization, gathering classified information, and assembly and collusion against national security.” Hasani was arrested in his hometown on September 11, 2022, and transferred to Evin Prison’s Ward 209. He faces similar charges.
