IRAN - 76th Week of No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign
July 8, 2025: July 8, 2025 - IRAN. 76th Week of No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign in 47 Prisons Across Iran
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the 76th week of this protest campaign is being held with the participation of prisoners in 47 prisons across the country.
The full text of the statement for the 76th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Continues in Its 76th Week Across 47 Prisons “Let us not be intimidated; let us defend the right to life of our fellow citizens.” We begin by honoring the memory of those who lost their lives in the student uprising of July 1999. Although brutally suppressed, that uprising laid the groundwork for the protests that followed in 2009, 2017, 2019, and 2022—and it will continue until the people achieve freedom and reclaim their right to self-determination.
Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign express their deep concern and growing outrage over the new wave of executions and intensified state repression across the country. Since the beginning of Tir (June 22, 2025), at least 24 people have been executed in Iran, bringing the total number of executions since the start of the year 1404 (March 21, 2025) to 428. These horrific figures reflect only a portion of the widespread and systematic violations of human rights in Iran.
In addition to the new wave of executions, this week has seen further instances of deadly violence and repression, including the killing of two young men in Hamedan by state forces and an armed attack on women in the village of Gonich, near Khash, which resulted in the deaths of two local women. These are clear examples of the regime’s misogynistic nature, its fear of popular protests, and its attempts to intimidate society.
In this context, on July 4, 2025, Ms. Mai Sato, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, issued a stern warning regarding the Iranian government’s exploitation of regional conflicts as a pretext to suppress ethnic and religious minorities and political dissidents. She emphasized the urgent need to safeguard the fundamental rights of all citizens based on international law and accused the Iranian government of continuing systematic repression.
Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign also strongly condemn the issuance of death sentences for five Kurdish political prisoners—Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, Pejman Soltani, Sooran Ghasemi, Kaveh Salehi, and Teyfour Salimi Babamiri—who were arrested during the 2022 uprising. These inhumane sentences, handed down without fair trials, amount to a total of 12 death sentences for these five individuals.
This campaign calls on the international community, human rights organizations, and freedom-loving, conscious individuals not to remain silent in the face of the plight of dual-national prisoners—such as Ahmadreza Djalali, who was inhumanely abducted by security forces on the night of the Evin Prison bombing and, after years of enduring imprisonment, is now at imminent risk of execution under a medieval sentence. We urge all to resist the regime’s attempts at intimidation and stand firmly in defense of the right to life of all citizens and prisoners sentenced to death.
The campaign further urges all institutions and human rights activists to intensify their efforts to clarify the status of prisoners, demand access to prisons, and seek direct dialogue with political prisoners. The revelations made by political prisoners exiled to Greater Tehran Prison and Qarchak Prison expose just a fraction of the inhumane conditions prevailing in Iranian prisons. If this is the state of prisons in the capital, the situation in other facilities—particularly for ordinary and lesser-known prisoners—can only be worse.
We demand the immediate revocation of all death sentences in Iran and firmly believe that the people of Iran, in solidarity with other oppressed nations, will continue this path of resistance and perseverance until victory and liberation are achieved.
