IRAN - Navid Salehi and Bayat Sobhani killed during protests

Navid Salehi and Bayat Sobhani, two Kurdish residents of Paveh who were living in Kermanshah, were killed by direct gunfire from Iranian government forces during protests in the Dareh Deraz neighborhood of Kermanshah. Hengaw had previously reported that at least five other individuals were killed during the same protests in the area.
According to information received by Hengaw, the killings occurred on January 8, 2026. Navid Salehi, 27, a resident of Mazidi village in Paveh County and a nurse at Taleghani Hospital in Kermanshah, along with Bayat Sobhani, 40, a resident of Shamsheer village in Paveh County, were shot and killed by forces of the Nabi Akram Corps in the Dareh Deraz area, also known as Mahdieh Township. Sobhani was married and the father of two children.
An informed source told Hengaw that both individuals were targeted by direct gunfire from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces using Kalashnikov rifles during the protests in the Dareh Deraz area.
The source added that the families of Navid Salehi and Bayat Sobhani were able to retrieve their bodies and that both men were buried in their respective hometowns on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Hengaw had previously reported that protests in the Dareh Deraz area of Kermanshah on January 8, continued until around 3:00 a.m. local time, with clashes between protesters and government forces. During this period, security forces, particularly the Nabi Akram Corps, opened widespread fire on demonstrators using heavy weapons, including DShK machine guns and Kalashnikov rifles.
Hengaw has also reported the killing of at least five followers of the Yarsan faith—Keyvan Rezaei, Yasin Mirzaei, Behrouz Safaei, Saman Nazari, and Sayad Faramarzi—during the same protests.
According to reports received by Hengaw, at least ten members of the Nabi Akram Corps were killed during clashes with protesters in the area.
