Dr. Qorban Abbasi, a prominent sociologist and civil activist from the city of Naqadeh, has been arrested by Iranian authorities.
According to information obtained by Hengaw, Abbasi was arrested on March 3, 2026, by intelligence forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). A source told Hengaw that Abbasi’s son, Alshan Abbasi, 19, was also arrested at the same time. He was later released on March 6.
Dr. Qorban Abbasi is known for his civil and pro-democracy activities and has authored and translated several books in the field of social sciences in recent years.
