AFGHANISTAN: SENIOR AFGHAN MAFIA LEADER HABIB ISTALIF SENTENCED TO DEATH

The Afghan Attorney General Office (AGO) announced that senior Afghan Mafia leader Habib Istalif was sentenced to death.
Habib Istalif was arrested by Afghan police forces in capital Kabul earlier in October last year.
He was a prominent Mafia boss involved in kidnapping and other criminal cases in capital Kabul.
Istalif was one of the most wanted criminal in capital Kabul, and he had escaped from prison ten years back.
He was arrested while he was plotting to arrest a businessman in Kabul, and his arrest will considerably help to improve the security situation in Kabul.
Kabul security chief, Gen. Zahir, following the arrrest of Habib Istalif had said that he had offered $3 million to be freed from the jail, besides threatening police officers in jail to death if he was not freed.
Gen. Zahir also added that Istalif was involved in major criminal cases including kidnapping and murder of businessmen in Kabul, murder of five Kabul security guards, murder of policemen and intelligence officials.
