FLORIDA (USA): MANUEL PARDO EXECUTED

Manuel Pardo, 56, white, was executed in Florida.
Pardo, a decorated police officer, killed nine people during a crime spree between January and April 1986 after he was fired in 1985 for lying. Pardo committed a series of robberies, killing 6 men and 3 women. Most of his victims were involved with drugs, officials said, and Pardo contended that he was doing the world a favor by killing them. He was sentenced to death on April 20, 1988. Codefendant Rolando Garcia is currently engaging in the appeals process in regarding to his 4 death sentences.
Pardo becomes the 3rd inmate to be put to death this year in Florida, the 74th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1979, the 43rd and last inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1320th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977. The 43 executions this year is the same total as the USA put to death last year.
In 2010 there were 46, and 52 in 2009.
