November 28, 2023 - Hani Shahbazi (Al-Boushehbazi) executed in Ahvaz on November 28. Shahbazi was arrested during the November 2019 protests.
According to Tasnim (state media), a man was executed in Ahvaz Sepidar Prison. The unnamed man whose exact date of execution has not been specified, was sentenced for murder and moharebeh (enmity against god).
A local human rights organisation named Karoun reported his identity as 32-year-old Hani Shahbazi from Shadegan, and set the date of the execution to November 28.
Shahbazi was one of the protesters detained during the November 2019 protests. Following the brutal and bloody crackdown on the people of Shadegan in November 2019, this protester was arrested in this city on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
He was sentenced to death by the Abadan Revolutionary Court on charges of insurgency, including the murder of Yaser Sepidro, a member of the law enforcement, and Mohammad Ali Kazemi, a member of the Basij (under cover civilian units).
Detailed information regarding the court proceedings and the examination of the charges against this Arab political prisoner is not available. According to informed sources, he was subjected to severe torture, in order to extract coerce confessions.
Saleh Motahari, the legal deputy of the police command in Khuzestan Province, to government media, confirmed the execution without disclosing the identity of the prisoner and that the execution order was carried out after approval by the Supreme Court.
