IRAQI MILITANT TO HANG FOR KILLING OF U.S. SOLDIERS

29 October 2008 :

An Iraqi court sentenced a militant to death by hanging for the killing of three U.S. soldiers in 2006.
Ibrahim al-Qaraghuli is one of three suspected Al Qaeda in Iraq militants who went to trial for the killings. The other two, Walid al-Kartani and Kazim al-Zubaie, were found not guilty for lack of sufficient evidence.
It is not immediately clear whether al-Kartani and al-Zubaie will be released from custody. All three are Iraqis and have been in custody for at least a year.
The killing of the three soldiers, members of the 101st Airborne Division, was one of the most brazen attacks against U.S. forces since the Iraq war began in 2003.
