SOMALIA: MILITARY COURT IN PUNTLAND EXECUTES 19 MEN BY FIRING SQUAD

Nineteen men were executed on 8 March 2023 by Puntland's military court.
Thirteen of these 19 men belonged to the Al-Shabaab and Daesh groups.
Their executions occurred in three different cities - Galkayo, Garowe, and Bosaso - around 8:00 a.m.
In Galkayo, five men who belonged to the Al-Shabaab security forces were shot and killed in the Wadajir area of Galmudug.
Meanwhile, Shuayb Mohamed (also known as Jaffar) was executed in Garowe. He had been involved in fighting between Puntland and Shabaab forces in Suuj, Garmaal, and Kulub back in 2016. Although he was offered amnesty and rehabilitation, he rejoined Al-Shabaab and committed murders in Mogadishu. He was arrested while travelling to Bosaso and subsequently executed.
In addition to these events, six men who belonged to the Al-Shabaab and Daesh networks were executed in Bosaso town for role in killings in the port city.
The military court also executed six soldiers by firing squad after they were convicted of carrying out several civilian killings in the state, which brings the total number of people executed on 8 March to 19.
